Egypt At Least 25 Killed Outside Football Stadium In Stampede And Clash

At least 25 people have been killed in a stampede and clashes between football supporters and police outside a stadium in Egypt.

An insurgence broke outside a football stadium, during a major football game in Egypt. Due to stampede and clash between police and fans, 22 people were killed outside the football stadium.

Number of Egyptian football fans got killed on Sunday evening after police fired teargas and shotgun pellets on supporters trying to enter the football stadium, in the latest spasm of state-led violence that has characterized much of Egypt’s post-revolutionary history.

The recent clash urged the government to postpone the Egyptian Premier League for a time being.

The exact number of death has not been confirmed by the government yet but with initial reports the number of deaths are 22 but the number is apparently increasing as people succumbed to their injuries.

In addition to this more than 20 have been injured in the violence that took place outside the Air Defense Stadium of Cairo.

Three years back, a limit was imposed on the number of spectators that were allowed to enter football stadium as 74 football supporters were killed in a riot at a stadium in Port Said, but this was lifted recently. However, there is a possibility that after Sunday’s riot government may once again impose limit on the number of people attending the football game.

In Sunday’s clash 25 people have died and numbers of people were injured, as a result Egypt’s Premier league has been suspended indefinitely and an arrest warrant has been issued in the name of the Ultras White knights, a Zamalek supporters group. As the group has a history of being involved in clashes with the security forces and was also involved in ousting President Hosni Mubarak.
