Sultan Box Office Victory is Good News for Salman Khan, but Bad for Younger Stars
Success of movie “Sultan” at the box office as the film earnings are now increasing toward RS 200- crore mark, already earned Rs 195.5 crore in just first six day in the theatres. The success of movie Sultan may have cemented the Bollywood Star Salman Khan Number 1 position in the film industry. While this is great news for him but it may have the unintentional consequences for the younger crop of actors in the Indian film industry including the Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sushant Singh Rajput.
How so it is possible? To answer this question we only need to just looking at the unwritten rule in the Bollywood which dictates that any actor who hopes to grab the top crown, needs to do by at the age of 30 or at the most in his early 30s.
You are not convincing yet…. let looks at how this rule has played in the Bollywood in the past. The legendary Dilip Kumar; he was 25 years old when he attempt to get the prominence with Jugnu and at the age of 28 he was the king of all as he sell. Similarly the young Rajesh Khanna break through the superstardom at the age of 27 and his career has seen unprecedented heights at the age of 32 and was about to fizzle out. Same as it happen with the Amitabh Bachchan with the later begin as he got his first massive hit in Znajeer at the age of 31.
Salman Khan himself had his first hit at the age of 24 when he give his first blockbuster “Maine Piyar Kiya” back in 1989. At the time when he was 26 he had consolidated his strong position with back to back hits like Saajan, Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa and the astounding success of movie” Hum Aaapke Hain Kaun” when he was only 29 years old. The other superstar of the 90s, Shah Rukh Khan has his first blockbuster “Dilwaly Dulhaniya leJayengy” within the deadline of 30s. As he followed up with the “Baazigar” and then later Kuch Kuch hota hy had just name very few until he reach 30.
Now look at some other very famous and successful actors with some great hit with their name, who never declared as the Number 1 only because their best times comes later in their acting career. The legendary Dharmendra has given the hits since 1964 “Phool aur Patthar” but the time he gains popularity at the age of 34 in 1973-74 and not forgets the Dharmendra favourite “Sholay” with the Bachchan’s big hit as he inherited the crown form the Rajesh Khanna.
In the same way, Aamir Khan had irregular hits through his career since 90s but phenomenally he get the real success in 2006, when he was 41 years old as he came up with the trending change movie “Lagan” and since that he give several blockbusters including 3 Idiots, PK and his movie PK is still the highest gross selling movie of Bollywood.
